Multiple vessels have reported projectile strikes and near misses in waters off the UAE and Oman, according to incident updates issued on 1 March 2026 by UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

The advisories confirm four separate incidents in the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman within a 24 hour period, alongside a broader warning covering the Strait of Hormuz and adjacent sea lanes.

Sharjah, Muscat and Mina Saqr

UKMTO stated that an unknown projectile exploded in very close proximity to a vessel 35 nautical miles west of Sharjah. All crew were reported safe and well.

In a separate advisory, UKMTO confirmed that a vessel 50 nautical miles north of Muscat had been struck above the waterline by an unknown projectile, as reported over VHF Channel 16. An initial report of an engine room fire was later updated to confirm the fire was under control.

A further incident 17 nautical miles northwest of Mina Saqr involved a vessel struck by an unknown projectile, according to the Company Security Officer. The resulting fire was extinguished and the vessel intends to continue its voyage.

UKMTO also recorded suspicious activity two nautical miles north of Oman. The crew were evacuated and reported safe, with authorities investigating the circumstances.

The 28 February advisory warned of significant military activity across the Arabian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, North Arabian Sea and the Strait of Hormuz.

Mariners were advised of potential elevated electronic interference, including disruption to AIS and other navigational or communications systems.
